It still sort of works but it takes almost an entire set of increasingly hard to get ink cartridges to unclog it to make a few prints.Įven in its prime head clogging was a pain in the print carriage and I used it then at least once a week for several years. Ity's a PDF, about 9mb size.I have one of these sitting in my garage.

There are copies of the factory service manual available on the net. You're going to have to disassemble the printer to find out, could be a loose connector, dirty or damaged sensor, whatever. If that doesn't work, then there are a whole lot of other possible causes for "fatal error", mainly mechanical to do with paper feed rollers, ink suction motor, sheet feed sensors etc etc. I'd probably find some other way to put it on too - but that's me, and I don't accept any responsibility for damage from following my suggestions. Now I don't have any "GR 71" epson grease, but I'd use a light white lithium grease, epson say apply with a syringe around the bar either side of the carriage, then move it both ways, then repeat. Then clean the bar carefully with a very clean soft rag, as you can gently move the carriage from side to side. But if it was me, I'd turn the printer on, then unplug it from mains power when the head is about half-way. Problem is that the grease is an Epson special grade. Perhaps the grease on the main carriage bar hasn't liked sitting around for a year or so. With your video, when you start it up, the carriage seems to move to the left quite slowly (much slower than mine). That the thin plastic ribbon strip running across the printer (side to side) is very clean, and if you look at where it sits in the carriage when that is in the parked position, that the ribbon hasn't popped out of the slot where it's read by the sensor in the carriage. "Fatal error" has many possible listed causes. rember if u search it seems to be a common problem.but no one has any answersĪccording to the epson service manual (R1800/2400 model) the two lights rapidly blinking are a "fatal error". I had a ? for the guy who mentioned tape? the only tape removed was on the top of the pannels that i remeber where inside could there be any more tape? i looked every where.Īnd i will also try the ink thing but im pretty sure there all the way in, this isnt my first machine, just the first epson to do this. When you turn the power button what u see happen, happens. we plugged it in, ran the software, plugged it in via USB cable. We Purchased this machineover a year ago, we left in the box because the one we was using stilled worked great. I search and searched for help and found this site, yea im new, and this seemed like the site to go to. WOW! REALLY A TROLL? i wont even address you any further, very disrepectful. Not that much of a help, but if it does that every time it starts up it means that it doesn't remember that it was parked last time it was on. It does that so it can 'find' the end of the rail again and know exactly where the head is. Is what epsons usually do whenever they lose power while the head is in an indeterminant position. Just for the record, that first thing it does (move the head slowly across and then back to home again). Unfortunately, I know a lot about this printer from first hand experience.

You would need the Epson Service Adjustment Program, which is available from any of the resellers who market manuals (do a search) This program allows you to access the EPROM and determine what the error code is - whether it is a problem with the PW sensor (relatively easy fix) or something more serious such as the CR or PF motor control (not so easy). If this doesn't solve your problem, then the issue is more complicated.

Since this is a new printer, it is very unlikely but it is still worth a shot downloading the free SSC utility and resetting the waste ink counter.

This occurs after a predetermined time when the printer guesses that the waste ink pads are full and have to be replaced. The first and most hopeful is that of a service request. There are several causes of fatal errors. Am I correct that both the ink and paper warning lights are flashing rapidly on the front panel? If this is the case, the lights are indicating what is known as a "fatal error". If they won't then I guess you'll have to troubleshoot afterall.įrom the video I see that all of the inks are in their respective positions. If it is still under warrantee then I would insist that Epson replace it. I can appreciate that you are very frustrated, especially since it is a new printer.
